Dear Colleagues,
The Ad Hoc Working Group ‘Promotion of the Profession’ sets out to identify examples/success stories to demonstrate the value of applying psychology/psychologists either in new or exceptional areas, or good examples of core work that the profession recognises well but may be less familiar to those outside it.
We are working to bring together examples to act as a resource across our Full Membership, as well as for our work at the European level, of the wide range of contributions psychologists make.
The first part of the attachment gives some ideas of the sort of areas we are looking for. Examples should go beyond the traditional mental health / therapy context. Initiatives to apply psychology-based behaviour change initiatives/methods (e.g. against climate psychology-based brilliant examples. These may be for initiatives working at the individual, community or policy level. Research projects that aim to have practical impact would also be of interest.
The second part of the attachment lists the examples we have received so far in response to our previous discussions on this topic. We would like to showcase all the examples we receive, demonstrating the relation of these practical professional examples to psychological theories and research and to show the benefits of the described initiatives. This will include how the work of psychologists can result in cost savings for governments as opposed to adding a burden to already strained budgets.

Full Members will have the opportunity to present examples that can be provided in time at the forthcoming Council Meeting so as to share with others and have time for discussion.
